The Mellieha Northenders bounced back from a disappointing loss against Pembroke the previous week by beating Gzira Mustangs 11-4 in their first match of the second half of the season. Keith Bartolo assured his team the win by striking out 10 batters and allowing just one earned run over four innings of work.

Overall, the Mellieha pitchers struck out 14 batters and walked just four. Adding to the offence were first and second basemen David Borg and Omar Galea who both singled in runs with the bases loaded.

Mellieha`s runners kept the Gzira defence on its toes by stealing an impressive 11 bases on the day. The usually fleet footed Mustangs were held to a game low of just three stolen bases.

Mustangs` Patrick Pace muscled a high fly ball just over the left field fence for his league leading fourth home-run of the season.
