EU referendum

It`s time for the referendum. In a few months` time the people will have to decide for or against Malta becoming a member of the European Union.

The Labour Party maintains that the eventual outcome will simply not be binding. It insists that the only way that we can adequately decide is through a general election.

Can the Labour Party claim to respect the people`s vote and then devalue a voting exercise where the people can, in the simplest way, voice their stand for or against something?

The Labour Party, disregarding this, seems to be disregarding also the people`s opinion about the European Union.

Is the decision to be taken by the people in a referendum of no value to the Labour Party? Or is it really a question of the Labour Party only wanting the people to vote when it itself has a chance of gaining?
