The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses has objected to its members being drawn into an industrial dispute in which it is not involved.
The Union Haddiema Maghqudin on Monday ordered ambulance drivers to only carry patients if a nurse were present, "for the safety of the patient".
Ambulance drivers are following partial industrial action, answering only emergency calls, after the government turned down their request for an allowance after they attended a first aid course.
In a letter to the Office of the Prime Minister, the MUMN yesterday said that nurses would only accompany patients who needed them, pointing out that patients who did not need a nurse to accompany them before, would not need one now.
