The first edition of the Malta Fireworks Festival was bound to be "one of the most spectacular happenings Malta has ever seen" and one which is sure to delight, the organisers, the Malta Tourism Authority, said.

The festival will be held in Grand Harbour on Friday and Saturday in the evening and will serve as a preview of fireworks let off during the months-long Maltese festa season later in the year.

Through the Maltese Pyrotechnical Association, 12 firework factories are to participate in this year`s festival, centred around Lascaris Wharf, from where the land, sea and aerial fireworks displays may be enjoyed.

There will also be a show on Friday from 7 to 9.30 p.m. and fireworks synchronised to music on Saturday from 9.30 to 10.30 p.m.

The festival will also incorporate a breathtaking display of ground fireworks. Aerial fireworks will also be let off from different parts of Grand Harbour.
