Kavallieri Blue Label confirmed their status as Barclays League champions when they brushed off a weak Stompers challenge in a match which finished 52-7.

The previous match was a different story, though, with Kavallieri showing true championship class to beat Alligators Cisk Export.

Both teams, hit by depletions due to injury, had a lot to prove and the rivalry was intense. Alligators could claim the honour of having been the only team to beat Kavallieri in their cup encounter and strongly desired the second place in the league.

The match started off with the run of play being very much in Alligators favour. Andy Borg, playing out of position at wing, scored the first try within the first five minutes. Then Goncalo, at fly-half, made it 10-0.

Alistair Chalmers scored the third try in the 21st minute, the only one to be converted by Goncalo, who also made it 22-0 on the half-hour.

The second half saw Bonavia score for Kavallieri to make it 5-22. Then, there was a Kavallieri forward reshuffle that allowed new signing, Vintam Lzaislas, to start in the second half and he immediately made his mark with a great run to score a try.

This was immediately followed by tries from Beerman and Grima, both converted by the same Beerman, half way through the second half.

The Alligators were now 24-22 down, seeing their advantage being frittered away, and seemingly unable to do anything about it. Gator hooker Buttigieg went off with a fractured hand.

The Gators fought back hard winning good penalty opportunities in the Kavallieri 22m. Lack of confidence in kicking made them opt for running the ball but they failed to score the crucial try.

Finally, the bubbly Lzaislas showed true athletic prowess in inserting the last nail in the Gator coffin making it 29-22 for Kavallieri.
