Narrow choice

In an article on March 23, it was stated that more than half the population does not read. Mention was also made of Malta`s 126 libraries, containing 2.6 million books.

I am a 14-year-old student who enjoys reading. In fact, reading is my major hobby. Up to some time ago, I used to borrow books from the public library in Floriana. Most of these books are old and in a very bad condition. Readers end up having to read the same books over and over again as there is little choice. Is this the right way to encourage students to read?

The authorities should invest in the future generation by equipping our public libraries with new modern books. This is the right way to encourage students to read.
