The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses said it would not be ordering further industrial action following the start of talks over the rise in fees for use of the car park near St Luke`s Hospital.

Last week the union ordered a two-hour strike at the hospital in protest against the rise from 10 cents to 35 cents, after management of the car park was handed by the government to Pietà council.

A time frame has been set for May for the positive conclusion of the talks with Pietà council, sources close to the union said.

In a statement, MUMN said that if, however, negotiations were not satisfactorily concluded in the coming weeks, the union would be compelled to resort to industrial action.

The union also thanked Nationalist MP Mario Galea who has acted as a mediator.
