More than 900 exhibits featured in the annual fancy poultry and pigeon show at San Anton Gardens over the weekend. The event was organised by the Fancy Poultry and Pigeon Club and drew hundreds of people.

Exhibits included large fowl, water fowl, bantam, game birds and fancy pigeons.

Besides the normal sections, the show also included a pets section and a section for children`s drawings. There were a total of 43 exhibits in the former, and 46 in the latter. There was also an exhibition of eggs.

Club secretary Dione Galea said the main aim of the club was to preserve the bloodlines of the breeds.

The best in show in the poultry section was won by Salvu Mifsud of Guardamangia with his Cuchions partridge bantam. He also won the best in show in the pigeon section with a Lakes, the first of its kind to be seen in Malta.

The runner up in the poultry section was Frans Borg of Zabbar with his Appenzeller fowl and the second runner up in the pigeon section was Victor Zarb of Zebbug with his Jacobin.
