Hotel induction course for first-timers

MHCS Training Ltd has launched a hotel induction course for potential staff who aim to work in hotels this summer for the first time.

The course applies to all grades of staff and will be run in English or Maltese depending on the audience. Likely candidates are school leavers, university students, people looking for part time-work in cleaning duties or as service waitresses, or as maintenance handymen, kitchen assistants and various other grades.

The course starts with an introduction to hotel organisation, and then focuses on positive staff action for greater customer satisfaction and on health and hygiene matters.

Additionally, the course includes a guided tour of the front of house and back areas of the Hotel Metropole, and the views of an operations manager and two members of hotel staff chosen at random.

Typical terms and conditions that exist in hotels including a guide to wages is then explained, and this is followed by a simple test which will allow each individual candidate to determine their level of suitability to the industry and what type of work they are recommended to seek. The outcome of the test is for private use only.

A certificate of attendance will be awarded to candidates who may then be assisted to find jobs through the company`s recruitment division.

The courses are being held in the Tower Suite of the Metropole Hotel in Sir Adrian Dingli Street, Sliema and will be run on the first and third Wednesdays of every month, starting from May 8, to July.

Sessions will be held between 3 and 6 p.m. The fee is Lm 9.50.
