Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna has welcomed the Planning Authority`s recent decision to schedule all post collection boxes, telephone booths and other street furniture dating back to the British period.

"All these elements are of great intrinsic heritage value and deserve maximum protection in situ. They represent an important milestone in the industrialisation of the nation, apart from adding colour to the urban core of our towns and villages," it said in a statement.

FWA said it was involved in discussions with Maltapost to survey and document all historic postal boxes to determine their type and maintenance state. The results of the exercise will later be published in book form to make it accessible to students of local history and postal enthusiasts.
