The government has ratified the European Charter for Small and Medium Enterprises.

The signing was held in Slovenia where the parliamentary secretary in the Economic Services Ministry, Edwin Vassallo, was attending a conference for EU candidate countries.

The Maltese delegation included representatives of the GRTU, Association of General Retailers and Traders, the Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Industry.

In a statement, Mr Vassallo said he considered the ratification of the charter an achievement for the entrepreneurial sector.

The principles of the charter would serve as practical assistance to business people, he said.
