Alex Borg, playing some superb snooker, beat Simon Camilleri 5-1 in the final of the sixth and last ranking tournament of the season, organised recently by the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association.
This evening, Borg and Zammit, for the second consecutive year, will contest the Malta championship final on a best-of-15 contest, starting at 6 p.m.
Borg has won the Malta title twice in his career while Zammit was three times losing finalist.
On his way to the final of the ranking tournament, Borg demolished all opposition conceding only one frame and executing breaks of 73, 66, 64, 88, 99 and 84.
With all the points awarded for the current season, with the exception of the Malta championship, Borg and Grech are now level with 4,700 points each. Zammit is third followed by Arthur Cachia and Duncan Bezzina.
The local snooker scene comes to a close next week with the final of the First Division team championship played between 147 Snooker Hall and St George BC.
Simon Camilleri is the first division champion and Publius Grech was top player in the second division. Jason Smith won the third division league and the boys champion is Roderick Zammit.
