Suspicious case blown up

The AFM`s bomb disposal unit yesterday carried out a controlled explosion of an attaché case left on the doorstep of the Emigrants` Commission`s travel agency in Valletta.

The case was found to contain papers and some plastic bags.

No chances were taken by the authorities who immediately evacuated employees of the commission and the Department of Information across the road.

An Emigrants` Commission employee said the attaché case must have been forgotten on the doorstep by somebody who was waiting for the travel agency to open.

However, the AFM and police took immediate action and did not let anyone into the area. The Upper Barrakka Gardens were also closed.
