The solution to the problem in Birzebbuga`s drainage system does not lie in the gallery connecting the locality`s pumping station to Bir id-Deheb, as had been suggested recently by the local council, the ministry of resources and infrastructure said.

It said the gallery passing through Bir id-Deheb was 60 metres higher than the level at which drainage currently entered the pumping station.

The ministry said in a statement that the only solution which made sense technically was for the drainage coming from Birzebbuga to Bir id-Deheb to pass through the existing pumping system after this was upgraded.
