German couple Rosemarie Goldhorn and Fabian Theiss visited Malta once again, this time to tie the knot and make it a day to remember. Rosemarie`s first visit to Malta was in May 1996. Since then she has visited the island 15 times. It was also her husband Fabian`s 13th visit. The couple had met in Malta.

Rosemarie and Fabian come from Duisburg, a city in the Ruhr area, near Düsseldorf. They love Malta and know a lot about it too. During their stay Rosemarie and Fabian made many Maltese friends.

Fabian, a teacher of German and technology, and Rosemarie, a clerk in health insurance and a teacher of marketing, were married on March 28 at St Andrew`s Scots church in Old Bakery Street, Valletta, which doubles as a Lutheran church.

The church, with its small green door, was the perfect venue for such a sweet wedding. Rosemarie and Fabian were surrounded by their Maltese friends who were more than glad to celebrate this special day with them and by about 17 Germans, mostly childhood friends, who came to Malta for the occasion.

Rosemarie was attended by 15-year-old Lena Meinert, who attends grammar school in Duisburg. Together they walked down Old Bakery Street to the chapel, where they met Fabian and all the guests.

A Maltese friend of Rosemarie`s, 41-year-old Aldo Chircop of Birkirkara, whom she had met six years ago on her first visit, was the bride`s witness.

Fabian`s witness, 32-year-old actor Knut Gambusch, is a childhood friend whom he has known since grammar school. Thomas Boesner, a stone mason, and Rosemarie`s best friend, walked the bride up the aisle.

Minister Birgit Martin, who works for the German Lutheran Church in Malta, officiated at the wedding in German and English.

A party was later held in the couple`s holiday flat in Bugibba. The owners of the flat, Mr and Mrs Vella, who decorated it for the occasion, were also invited to the wedding ceremony.

Rosemarie and Fabian, whose last visit to Malta was over Christmas and New Year, left last Sunday.

Sammut-Zarb

The marriage took place on March 23 at St Aloysius` College church, Birkirkara, between Patrick Sammut, BA (Hons), PGCE, son of Mr and Mrs R. Sammut of Hamrun, and Rosalie Zarb, B.Sc. (Hons) (Nursing), Dip. Management, daughter of the late Mr Andrew Zarb and Mrs Marlene Zarb of Kappara.

Nuptial Mass was celebrated by Fr Paul Attard. The ceremony was witnessed by Mr Alex Sammut, the groom`s brother, and Mrs Yvonne Agius, the bride`s aunt. Ing. Winston Pirotta was best man.

The bride, who was given away by her uncle, Mr Oliver Agius, was attended by Mrs Simone Pirotta and Ms Rosanne Sammut.

A reception was later held at Villa Mdina, Naxxar. The couple are spending their honeymoon in Italy.

Bernard`s great-grandfather, although of Maltese origin, came to Malta from Gibraltar in the 1880s with his wife Vincenza née Borda, a native of Gibraltar, and four young children, who also had been born in Gibraltar.

He, like so many of his uncles and cousins, worked at Sullivan family shipping offices before his father and his brothers split, each expanding and forming their own establishments.

He went on to create the company Eurowear in the manufacture of jeans, and opened Sullsport Limited in 1989. He then joined Sullivan Shipping Agencies, with his father and Carmelo Sullivan, today the clan`s second most senior member, born in 1911, who both attend the office regularly. His directorships included: J.P. Sorotto (1877) Ltd, BOTC Ltd, Quest Ltd, Sullivan Consolidated Co. Ltd, Sullivan Investments Ltd, and Tug Malta Ltd.

Sullivan Shipping Agencies Ltd, Sullsport Ltd., and Concept Ltd, which operates the Baymart supermarket in Spinola Bay, with Bernard`s wife and partner Zammit.

A keen horseman and fine polo player and loved watersports, Bernard will be greatly missed by his many friends, family and colleagues and partner.
